On Feb 14th, 1827 Leonard Taylor secured the contract to build a two story brick schoolhouse and other outbuildings. The cost of the building was $735.74 and to pay this amount the town tax was raised by "21 cents on the dollar of the grand list, one third to be paid in cash and two-thirds in cattle and grain". Unfortunately, the cupola is gone, but much of the original charm and character remain. Each room has hand hewn beams and there are broad plank floors. Over the years many improvement and renovations have been made. Beautiful millwork, Anderson windows, a new roof, insulation work and bathroom renovations just to name a few. The schoolhouse is located just northeast of Rochester Common, walking distance to restaurants, groceries, library, post office, hardware, etc. Tucked away between the schoolhouse and perched high above the bank of a brook is a bonus 2BD/2BTH cottage!
